BIRMANS

There is a nice story (or legend) surrounding the origins of the Birman

The cats lived in the temples with the Priests, and were believed to contain the souls of deceased priests.   One day the temple was attacked by rebels, who killed the High Priest.   As the priest lay dying, his own faithful cat lay beside him and was touching him with all four paws.   As the priest died, the cat’s paws turned pure white (thought to be the symbol of purity), its body turned golden, and the eyes deep blue.   Gradually all the temple cats transformed into this new beautiful cat.  How true the tale is, is unknown but the first Birmans arrived in France after being given as a gift in the 1930’s.

Birmans are a medium to large cat that have a semi-longhaired coat.   They are quiet and loving and make excellent house cats.   Birmans should always have blue eyes and four neat white feet – like gloves.   The coat is easily maintained – just needing combing through nearly every day.   Birmans have coloured points which are in a variety of different colours.   Originally there were only Seal and Blue, but nowadays there are Chocolate, Lilac, Red and Cream, these colours also come as Tabby or Tortie Points.

MY BIRMAN CATS

Norvin Blossom Ofnamrib 13c3:
sire: Gr Ch Kuredu Wild Silk 13c3   x  dam: Norvin Vanityfayre
Blossom is a chocolate girl with lovely type and eye colour, but not perfect markings.  She is a gentle sweathearted nature, and gets on with everyone.  We hope to have kittens from her and Ghost later this year.

Adatelo Kryki Ofnamrib (Honey) 13c1:
sire: Gr Ch Norvin Hugo Boss 13c4  x  dam: Baygazer Layla 13c1

Honey joined our household in spring 2008, and is a lovely kitten
.  I needed a new girl who would be an 'outcross' to my stud Ghost.  She carries chocolate, and will be able to produce - seal, blue, chocolate and lilac point Birman kittens next year.  She is settling in well and is very laid back in nature.

Ch Namrib Spicethyme 13c6:
sire: Gr Ch Klassyklogs Klassified  13c7  x  dam: Namrib Pollyanna 13c3
Spice is the ultimate 'naughty tortie' who likes to think she is the boss in the house.  Spice has now settled down and not so bossy but still grumbles a bit if the big Maine Coon girls come too close.

Namrib Quality Street 13c3:
sire: Gr Ch Namrib Ghost x dam: Norvin Blossom Ofnamrib
Blossom and Sweetie are often in the airing cupboard together (ready to spy on anyone visiting the loo!)
