MAINE COONS

Maine Coons are one of the largest cat breeds.   They are thought to have originated from the forests in Maine, America.   These beautiful cats are believed to be a ‘natural’ cat that developed to adapt to the conditions that they were living in.   There are also stories that suggest they were the offspring of a cat and a Racoon – genetically impossible, or that Marie-Antionette’s Persian cats were shipwrecked nearby, and bred with the local cats, to produce a Maine Coon.

Maine Coons are known as the ‘gentle giants’ of the cat world.   They are quite large cats, but not as some suggest as big as dogs.  The males are very impressive cats and on maturity can reach between 12 – 18lbs, the females around 10 – 14lbs.   They have a semi longhaired coat that is flowing rather than fluffy.   The ears are large, and often have lynx tipping – that is tips to the tops of the ears.  Maine Coons should also have ear furnishings, which are long tufts growing out of the ears.   They have a big strong head with a square muzzle and deep strong chin.   When fully grown Maine Coons are quite tall and long, but take longer to mature than most other breeds.  A Maine Coon is not considered mature until around 3 years old.   They come in a wide variety of colours, some are self (solid) colours, or tabby patterns, with/without white.

Namrib Quintus Caesarion 64 31ts:
sire: Gr Ch Noracoon Caesar Ofnamrib 64 31ts x dam: Karolou Ginny Weasley 64.20
Quinty has grown into a big loveable softie.  He is the cat everyone who visits wants to take home!  He loves anyone who will cuddle him.  Quinty lives with the girlie Maine Coons, has time in the garden and comes inside daily for special cuddles with my husband Malcolm who he adores.

Namrib Champagne Onice 64 75f:
sire: Dambuster Child of Maine 64 18d x dam: Namrib Fartina Cullinda 64 18e

Champers  has now been spayed after producing 41 kittens.  She was an extremely fertile queen who produced 7 kittens, then 9 kittens and then 11 kittens, one litter each year.  We then only let her have 2 matings and she still produced two litters of 7 in each.  We decided enough was enough and spayed her late 2004, and now she has opted to live with Quinty.  She loves him as a companion and also comes out with the girls from time to time.  In fact, she has never looked better - she has put some weight on and is very fussy - particularly with my husband Malcolm.

Karolou Gypsy Ofnamrib 64 31t:
sire: Gr Ch Atticus Pellinor 64 31b  x  dam: Pursyston Amelia 64 20
Brown Tabby & White - Gypsy has now been spayed, as she has always been a very nervous cat.  After showing her a couple of times - it became clear she didn't like the show day.   As she remains a nervous girl, she will stay with us.

Brocstar Bewitched 64 31es:
Witchy has not come into season for over 2 years.  We decided to have her spayed, and she now happily lives in the house with us all.

Coonaria Namrib Missisippi (Missy) 64 20:
sire: Gr Ch Kirkoonz Saracen of Coonaria 64 20 x dam: Ragamews Tayanita 64 18
Missy is a stylish silver tabby with wonderful type and coat pattern.  She hates to be prepared for shows, but loves her days out.  She has attitude and loves to get into anyone's handbag!

Ch Elyskats Jenna 64 31ats
sire: Gr  Ch Yaheska Neptune Flyer x dam: Elyskats Happihooker
Jenny is a lovely blue silver & white girl, bred by Elspeth Litchfield.  She has an excellent temperament and is doing very well on the show bench.  She currently has 2 Grand Certificates, so we are hoping for the 3rd.  Jenny has only been in season once over 18 months ago, so she is now on homeopathy to try and 'get her going' again.

Mabalakat Servillia (Rosie) 64 31es
sire: Gr Ch Norasoon Titan 64 75dw x dam: Elyskats Kallin 64 31ats
Rosie is Missy's pal, together they get up to all sorts of mischief.  Rosie is very laid back and loves to be cuddled.
